The department of Information Technology has been dedicated to creating top-tier IT professionals with the skills required for success in today's highly competitive and rapidly evolving IT sector since its inception in 2001. The department also provides individual attention to make them good citizens of our nation to serve the industry and society constructively. A perfect blend of research and industry enriches this department which results in the overall growth of the department. The students of the IT department are consistently setting a good record in placement activities. Students get an offer from multiple reputed MNCs with attractive pay packages. The Department's alumni hold top positions in industry and academia, both in India and overseas. The department's average placement rate is 97% out of eligible students.

Rajagiri school of engineering and technology is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). B.Tech Information Technology programme is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) since 2014.

The department has three spacious and well-equipped laboratories: Quantum, Ulysses, and Kleinrock. The computing environments involve Network Demonstration Station, Big Data - Map Reduce/Apache Spark using Hadoop, Distributed Memory Programming using MPI, Computation Accelerators using GPU, Shared Memory Programming using Multi-Threading, Mobile Application Development - Apple/Android, IoT Application Development, Web Application Development, Heterogeneous Wireless Networks, Cloud Computing, Big Data Analytics, Intrusion Systems, Network Optimizations, Stream computing, Web Mining, Intelligent Networks, Energy-efficient networks, Autonomous self-configuring network protocol for dedicated real-time systems, Online Social Networks, Efficient Graph Processing, and P2P systems.

The Department has identified the key research areas as Distributed Computing and Systems, Computational Data Science, and Internet of Things. The research groups are the forum for faculty and students of the IT Department to create a platform for enabling all the members to meet, share, discuss, work on projects, do research, and develop applications. Faculty members are encouraged to participate in the Faculty Development Programs, Workshops, and Seminars arranged by other institutions and leading software industries in their research area as a step towards strengthening their domain knowledge.
