The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, RSET has been offering consultancy services in different areas to various organizations, educational institutions, hospitals since 2011. These services are designed and developed by our students under the guidance of the faculty members. These projects are intended to provide the expertise and technical potential of our students and faculty to benefit the society. Over the past few years we have been taking up projects in areas like Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Image Processing, Natural Language Processing, Application Development, Pattern Recognition etc.
We have been involved in providing training and consultancy services to software organizations in Infopark, Smart City and Cochin city since 2011. Our consultants help organizations and software project teams in improving team productivity, reducing defect levels, reducing costs and ensuring on-time delivery of projects. This is done as a collaborative effort by the consultant and project teams by collecting data from existing processes, analysing data, identifying causes for issues /variations from plan, and then taking corrective and preventive actions by fine tuning the processes,practices, tools and systems. We also help small and medium organizations to develop and implement software development and project management processes including estimation, planning,execution, monitoring and control of projects and then go for quality certifications like ISO 9001 and CMMI. Agile/Scrum and Design Thinking are two other areas where we have expertise. We train teams and develop Agile and Design Thinking mind-set within the team. We have been helping talent acquisition teams of small and medium organizations for first level technical assessment of candidates for various roles. Big data, Data Mining and Cloud Computing:
Age and Gender Detection in Kochi Metro - The aim of the project was to design and develop a system to perform trend analysis in Kochi Metro stations. The system detects the age and gender of the passengers by analyzing the live video data captured from surveillance cameras placed at metro stations and automatically starts playing advertisements based on the targeted audience. The system can also perform a trend analysis which in turn assists in automatically displaying advertisements targeting the class of crowd, efficient allocation of staff, planning shopping hubs in nearby locations etc.
Trend Analysis in Kochi Metro - An intelligent system that predicts trends and anomalies using the historical information of metro stations as input and accordingly alert the authorities to be prepared beforehand in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the station at all times.
Data Analytics tool for Rajagiri Hospital - An analytics tool that gives insight about various activities within the hospital such as discharge analysis, OP consultation analysis, admission statistics, pharmacy orders, demographic analysis of patients etc.
Liver fat Quantification from MRI images for Rajagiri Hospital - An automated system to quantify liver fat from MRI images and an application to view DICOM images and tools to work on the image.
Natural Language Processing:
Descriptive Online Examination and Assessment System - The descriptive exam system consists of checking of answer sheets and attending theory exams online. The system consists of candidate login and admin login. The whole system will be controlled by the admin. After registration, the candidate gets exam information related to his interest. In this system the candidate can apply for the exam. He receives his exam card through E-mail and attends the exam. The administrator arranges the exam schedule and result declaration. Admin also arranges the exam question papers and answer papers. The demo exam is also provided; the sample question and answers are also provided.
ICD-10 Code Identification From Patient’s Discharge Summary - This project was done in collaboration with Rajagiri Hospital, Kochi to automate the process of mapping the diagnoses of the patients to their corresponding ICD-10 codes and integrate it with their current Hospital Information System (HIS). The process was done manually by doctors with the help of their technical team which is a time- consuming process. This system maps diagnoses (even for multiple diagnoses) of past and future patient’s data to their corresponding ICD-10 codes. It can also detect variation in terminologies of diagnoses used by doctors and map it to their corresponding ICD-10 codes.
Clinical Decision Support System - A tool that provides clinicians, administrative staff, patients, caregivers or other members of a hospital care team with information that is filtered or targeted to a specific person or situation. CDS is intended to improve care quality, avoid errors or adverse events and allow care team members to be more efficient. This project was done in collaboration with Rajagiri Hospital
Chemistry Exam Evaluator for Plus two students of Cardinal Higher Secondary School - This is currently done by the Final year students with faculty of the Department of Computer Science as mentors . This is an application software which is intended to conduct descriptive examinations for Plus two students for their chemistry subject. The system has a student section where students can attempt objective type questions, match the following questions, fill in the blanks, descriptive question answers consisting of chemical equations, drawing chemical structures and problem solving questions. The system allows teachers to upload questions, students to attempt the exam and the system will auto evaluate and grade the answers.
Website and Mobile App Development - Customised website and mobile application development based on the requirements and specifications in various areas like hostel-mess menu application, food delivery application from canteen, college bus management system for students, automatic helmet tracker, smart attendance tracking system, student activity planner, automatic face-mask detection system etc.
Library Management System - A complete library management system for the record keeping of the various department libraries of RSET. This system maintains the database of the books available, has facilities to issue, return and renew a book. It also provides search facility, pre booking and late fee charging.
Automated Bell and Anthem Player-In this project, students developed an Arduino based real time clock with ringing of bell and anthem play. A real time clock is a battery powered clock that measures time even when there is no external power or the microcontroller is reprogrammed using Arduino.
Autotemp - A completely automated temperature reading and logging platform. The device can be mounded anywhere and measures and displays body temperature, and logs the data in real-time to a secure online database. If the measured temperature is above the normal threshold, a photo of the person is automatically captured and uploaded to its servers. The entire database is easily accessible to view and manipulate from a mobile application.
Smart Tic-Tac Board for Rehabilitation - A smart Tic Tac Toe board that is aimed at rehabilitation of mentally challenged persons. This project based on the popular Tic- Tac-Toe board game received funding from KTU-CERD and was completely developed by the students of RSET.
Wheelchair for Rajagiri Hospital- The primary objective of this project is to build an electric wheelchair for the paralyzed, that can be maneuvered using nothing but their tongues.Tongue Drive System helps people with severe disabilities like tetraplegia to lead a self-supported independent life.People with severe spinal cord injuries generally require constant support from caregivers. Assistive technologies can help such people to independently accomplish tasks safely and effectively. Since tongue movement does not require much thinking it is convenient for users to control the wheelchair using the tongue. This project ultimately aims at improving the lives of such paralysed patients.
